The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in recent years has benefited from strong artistic development and attracted a growing audience, both nationally and internationally. This also has contributed to the orchestra’s move into the new, world class Stavanger concert house in the autumn of 2012.
The orchestra had extensive activities in 2011, playing a total of 157 orchestral and chamber concerts for nearly 75,000 listeners. Over the past 20 years the orchestra has released some 40 recordings that focus on Norwegian music from the first half of the 1900s. As a result, complete series of orchestral music by Harald Sæverud, Geirr Tveitt and Fartein Valen have been recorded. In 2012, the orchestra gained nominations from both the British Gramophone Award and the French Diapason d’Or.
Creative marketing, along with an original visual identity, has drawn attention to the orchestra far beyond the country’s borders.
